Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.

Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
