Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The buzz about the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
